It's just one of those myths that a wish will come true if the numbers on a clock are all the same, like 3:33, or 1:11. Who knows how it originated, if you look up "urban myth origins" on google, I'm sure you could probably find out why.

Whoever answered "Wow you need a life" comment was rude and unnecessary. Now that that's out of the way, that happens to me just about everyday. My brain keeps track of time pretty well. I'll be sleeping and then in my dream I will see or hear the time. then i'll wake up and surely enough it will be that exact time. This has been going on for months with me, so I am used to it, I like making wishes anyways. I wish upon stars all the time too. If it bothers you seeing 11:11, think 11:12 in your head at random times during the time and maybe that would help. Personally I enjoy seeing it and making a wish. Good Luck, bon courage!

I read it originated with Armistice Day, the end of WWI. Peace was declared at 11:11 on 11/11/1918. So people began saying, "11:11, pray for peace" or "wish for peace" which eventually morphed into "Make a wish". Trying to remember where I read that but think it was in a Harry Truman biography (he was a captain in WWI).

Because it's thought to be Angelic time.
