Maybe Taekwondo mixed with boxing ?

I Personally think they should've Made Riley Know Jujitsu mixed with striking because of army.

Once More With Feeling Definately Gymnastics. and she did the Weave dodge of boxing and deflection of some sort of martial arts when she was deflecting the knifes and a Outside crescent kick from taekwondo . i've also noticed some spinning backfist's in the fight scenes in the past. so i was thinking maybe some kickboxing?

Buffy probably used a combination of kick boxing, taekwondo, karate, and a little muay thai.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Sarah Michelle Gellar had previous taekwondo experience prior to her 'Buffy' role.

Faith used a lot of the "spinning back fist" move, but her stance and the general way in which she fought a lot (S3 "Graduation Day Pt. 1) she's using a lot of flashy boxing techniques, dancing around her opponents strikes a lot and the spinning back fist, for example.

Spike tends to use a lot of muay thai, styles relying heavily on the kick, knee and clinch techniques it looks like.

Its kind of ironic, but Buffy herself doesn't really have much fighting technique. A lot of her moves would be impractical in a real fight, not all of them though. But still a surprising amount. A lot of the fight scenes were choreographed more for entertainment value than real practicality, which would explain this.

I always wanted to know why the rest of the Scooby Gang never bothered with taking a few fighting classes. Having known Buffy since high school, having been fighting by her side, you'd think they would have thought a little training useful. Its not like you have to be physically super powered to pick some technique up.

Gunn, Wesley - and even Cordelia, a bit - put time into developing fighting skills. Not so much Xander or Willow, even though they could have used it plenty of times.

^ I don't think she's joking. :-P. I'm about to cement a place for myself in the geek hall of fame with this confession... That was actually something that I did for years. I like to dance. Alot. I started taking karate lessons when when I was about 15ish (i'm 23 now). They didn't last for long because I got preoccupied with being a irresponsible teenager and drinking too much. But when I did I used to put myself in Buffy's world in my head. As if I was her whilst training. After I stopped taking lessons i'd incorporate what i'd learn into dancing. So i'd end up in my kitchen or bedroom dancing and kicking around like a crazy person on speed. The thing was i'd use Buffy phrases whilst at it. I got caught talking to myself so many times my mother was ready to have me commited. I'd love to say I don't do it any more, but I still dance, and I still disappear into Buffy world when I do it. The only difference now is that I try to keep the phrases and out loud speaking in my head. My reputation couldn't take any more controversy. My favourite scene to relive (is relive the right word when it's fiction?) is probably the Buffy/Faith fight scene from 'Graduation Day I' the one from 'This Years Girl' I also have a habit of making up Buffy based stories in my head. So much so I started issuing challenges for BtVS fanfic that someone else could write. I don't write any because it's simply not my thing, but I will read them if written by a talented author rather than a 12 year old with the grammatical abilities of a gerbil. I started making up fictional Buffy scenes in my head when I was eleven years old. (My history teacher caught me doing that out loud once too *cringe*) Twelve years later I still do it. It may well be strange but it's my coping mechanism. It helps me handle she shite of real life without going completely loopy.

Honestly, I think they had a blackbelt in BS for that show. Not very many of those moves would have worked in actuality, or without the assistance of a line crew.
