I have not read the books (and I know I should soon) but I'm a huge fan of the movies. I was watching Goblet of Fire yesterday, then the Order of the Phoenix today and in the beginning of this movie it seems Harry has known Moody for awhile now, but shouldn't they be meeting for the first time in this movie since someone else pretended to be Moody all throughout the Goblet of FIre?

He meets Moody in the end of the fourth movie. But since the movies omit a ridiculous amount of detail you can't really see the little dialogues and whatever in the book that help them get to know each other. In the Order of the Phoenix book, in the beginning, the conversation that goes on between Harry and the Order is longer and much more detailed, where Harry also gets to find out little details about Moody (like how he says 'vice versa' a lot and expects the absolute worst out of every situation. He says "In case any of us dies.." a lot, too.)

You just have to read the books. The movies are great but they're no match. Not even close.

Both real and fake Moody is first introduced to us in GOF. Harry meets the real Moody at the end of the book.

They could have made a whole nother 2 1/2 hour movie with the amount they cut out of GOF. Same goes for OOtP. Really should try to read the books. Way better.

JKR is masterful with the way she writes fake Moody-- I am just glad I read them when they came out so I didn't know about Moody; that was one amazing plot twist.

But when you read it knowing fake Moody is real Crouch Jr., and you think about Crouch Jr. actually saying/doing the things he says and does, they take on a whole new meaning.

Like the lesson on the curses in the classroom with the spider-- that's not to warn kids. He's playing with Harry & Neville's heads-- and enjoying it.

Hi Samantha,

Harry sees the real Moody for the first time at the end of The Goblet of Fire, but since the Auror was unconscious at the time, I wouldn't say they met. Moody is introduced to Harry for the first time at the beginning of Order of the Phoenix. Lupin introduces him to Harry, and the passage goes something like this, "Harry nodded nervously. It was strange to be introduced to someone he thought he'd known for a year." (quoting from memory).

So I don't remember how they behave in the movies, but in the books Harry is a bit nervouys around Moody.

No he doesn't betray Harry. It was a Death Eater, Barty Crouch Jr, one of the most faithful to Voldermort, who turned himself into "Mad Eye" Moody using the Polyjuice Potion, a potion that allows the drinker to become anyone he or she wishes. That is why the fake Moody keeps drinking out of this vial, continued dosage so to speak. Barty Crouch Jr. had been in Azkaban for being a Death Eater and his father, Barty Crouch Sr., a high ranking official in the Ministry of Magic, helped him escape as it was his wife's wish. Crouch Jr., ever the loyal servant to Voldermort, imprisoned Moody to get to Harry. That's why the fake Moody kept helping Harry through the Tri Wizard tournament, in the end the Tri Wizard Cup would be a portkey that would take Harry to Voldermort.

He meets him in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (4) at the end when he sees that the fake Moody is in fact Barty Crouch Jr, and then he opens a trunk and they see the real Moody trapped deep down in the depth.
