I always thought you ate the leaves. Try Wikipedia or search the internet. If you can find the active ingredient (Wikepedia will tell you) then look that up and you will get lots of info from other sources.

(I've found out everything, but rather than just tell you, I think it would be better if you did it yourself)...)

The peyote cactus contains buttons that can be cut from the root and dried. The buttons can either be chewed or soaked in water to produce an ingestible liquid. Peyote buttons may also be ground into a powder and then smoked with a leaf material, such as cannabis or tobacco.

If you need RESEARCH why did you ask on Y/A? Don't you know how to use SEARCH ENGINES (e.g. GOOGLE.COM)? Also, there's the PUBLIC LIBRARY where you can look things up in BOOKS.

Don't particularly know about peyote, but I strongly suspect that it would be part of the plant that could be removed without killing it. In deserts resources tend to be scare, and I can't think of many traditional cultures which would knowingly threaten something that they saw as a very important resource

Cottage cheese and cream cheese are absolutely fine. They have been pasturized. I eat cottage cheese all the time, and my baby is healthy as can be. I don't like cream cheese, but I know several friends who ate it on bagels for breakfast the whole pregnancy. The soft cheeses that you should avoid are the ones that are not completely or not at all pasturized.
