Alright so, My family lived in an apartment and my step dads dad had owned the inn on capitol hill which was said to be haunted, it was like some sort of hotel and he sold it and took all the furniture and gave us a mirror and ever since then I always saw things and felt a presence in my house, After a while I started noticing that my dreams began consisting of ouija boards and things like that, we moved into a house and brought the mirror with us (unfortunatley) and I began smelling cigarettes which none of my family members smoked at all, I soon moved my room into the basement and there was a light at the top of the stairs that i would turn off every night and one night I was up the stairs to turn the light off and I turned around and saw a little girl she had no eyes and was sitting cross legged at the end of the stairs I freaked out and ran. I've seen her a few times.

That is a very old superstition since at that time the average person did not understand how a mirror worked and assumed that it was magic of some sort. Today we understand the construction of mirrors but the stupid stories continue.

Ghosts can attach themselves to certain objects. Generally, this only happens if the object was significant to the being in its lifetime. It sounds like you might have just had a ghost in both places you moved to; however, there is most definitely a possibility that the hauntings were linked to the mirror. It sounds, though, like different things were happening in the different places, and most of the time, if you have a ghost connected to an object (i.e. the mirror), the same basic things will happen wherever the object is taken.

Have fun with your new ghosts! ^.^ Haha. Really, though. Keep in mind that ghosts cannot hurt you, and, aside from making your heart beat faster out of fright or giving you a chill every once in awhile, they pose no danger.

Poltergeists are another matter. It doesn't sound like you have one, though. Even then, you'd have to have an extremely powerful poltergeist to actually physically harm you.

Don't smash the mirror. That would be plain rude. I doubt the spirit means any ill-will, and smashing its "home" (I loosely use the term "home") would not be very polite, and that would absolutely make it turn against you. If you really have the desire to get rid of the spirit, get rid of the mirror.

There is much to be said for mirrors harboring spirits. In many cultures, upon the death of a family member, they turn the mirrors to the wall. This is to prevent the spirit from accidentally entering it and being trapped. It also prevents them from choosing to be trapped in a mirror, if they so choose to. There are many incidents of pictures, mirrors and other reflective or even artwork surfaces being haunted so to speak.

The most fabulous one I know of is the portrait found in an attic by the new owner of a house. It was of a young girl and seemed to be done is blacks and grays. The owner liked it and chose to hang in in a salon. As time went by, she noticed that the portrait seemed to be changing colors. At first, she just thought she had mistook the lack of color and could see them better in the sunlight. But, as more time went by, the colors gradually became lighter and more vivid until, today, it is a painting done in pastels. While the color changing was happening, that salon was also the scene of voices that were heard when no one was in the room but stopped when someone would go in.

This seems to be one of the only things I have not experienced. I have not as of yet seen the ghost in the mirror. No doubt, having mentioned it, the ghosts I live with will show me just to tease. Hopefully it will be the cat.

Not necessarily the mirrors themselves, but HOW the mirrors are placed. If mirrors are placed facing a reflective object such as a shiny glass photo frame, and so forth, that reflection causes an infinite loop image which is known to be considered a portal for spirits to pass through, since the infinite loop is technically impossible..but with mirrors facing mirrors, glass or other objects...this happens...and it doesn't have to be just mirrors, however any two reflective objects facing one another causing a image to be reflected back and forth to one another.

I have found during many paranormal investigations in peoples homes, that moving some photo frames, and mirrors around, will stop this reflection process from happening and will actually cause the haunting and activity to stop...
