For you, I think it might be a demonic entity planning an attack. he is checking you out. Do you have angels, Holy Angles that visit you, are you protected by the Blood of Jesus.

Can he get at you. Sounds like he is observing you right now.

What emotion, other than scared do you feel? Scared because it is unknown, and you are anxious to interpret and protect yourself.

Sleep with a small night light, do you still sense this presence.

When you are tired, you can hallucinate. And varying shades of black could be linked in your imagination and interpretted as a form.

I don't think this is the case though, because you said your mother saw it too.

There is a whole spirit world around us. Most of us can't see it, especially in our waking state, which is most likely a good thing.

So to tell you there is nothing there, it is your imagination, is false and a disservice to you.

You already sensed a specific entity.

Now for discernment, is the entity good or bad?

What are you going to do with him. Can he serve any purpose to you. Can you control him. Protect yourself from it, if need be.

It really can't hurt your flesh, per se.

Watch your moods and emotions.

Why are others saying you are changing.

If you do not have the HolySpirit of God in you, available thru Jesus Christ, you can be possessed, and any entity can reside with your soul, inside of your body.

That is how God created it, he said, don't you know your body is the Temple of God. God made us for Him to live intimately with us, joined together, linked spirit to spirit in this body.

He will not intrude, you have to ask God in.

Meanwhile I sense a spirit entity is scoping you out, for a resting place for himself.

You can get rid of him by calling on Jesus.

Peace....

Go around your room with an EMF detector to see if there is any high electro magnetic fields, if there are you are more than likely just dreaming it, believe me when I say make sure you do this no matter what. It doesn't even matter if you know it isn't in your mind. Why? Because when you see the shadow figure again walk over to the area where you saw it and see if it gives off an EMF reading. Otherwise, there are superstitions saying that if you say the Lords Prayer, if you believe in it, it will disappear and if it doesn't then it is a good spirit. If you think the thing is still evil after you say it, put salt...a good amount, around your closet. This will be a cage for the spirit so it can not leave the closet. If this doesn't work, just drop me a line and I can assist you.

Check the electromagnetic field in your house. High levels of electromagnetism can lead to feelings of paranoia and seeing black shadow-like things.

Maybe it's a shadow person. Do you only see it at night? Could something from outside, like a light source (i.e.-cars driving by w/ headlights on), be shining in and casting shadows? I'm open to the possibilities of ghosts, but you may want to try to debunk it.

And by seeming like a new person, do you mean this in a good way, like your mood is up? If that's the case, and if you really do have a ghost, then maybe the two are connected & you shouldn't be scared.

If you're depressed at all, that's one symptom of psychotic depression. Hallucinations.

Just the lightbulbs. Maybe the lightbulbs in your closet weren't working well. It only takes a visit to a "Menards" or any warehouse to fix the problem. "Mysterious" shadows and "ghosts" are phony balony!

dark shadow? well, how many light shadows have you seen? There should be some logical explanations for the shadow "moving". Like the source of light moved, or you touched some of your clothes and the shadow appeared to "move". If you're scared, then perhaps you watch too many movies.

edit: i read some of the answers and hell, some people definitely watch too many movies.

Paranoia. And believe me, shadows can't move in the dark. Otherwise, they're not shadows.

Leave the lights on and you should be able to answer your question as to what "it is". Likely to be an overactive imagination combined with a stressful lifestyle.

* Edit: Then find some way to draw light into your room, even if it's by artificial means (floor lamp, flashlight etc).

I am a firm believer that there is more then meets the eye, and while it could just be a shadow and your imagination, it could also be someone saying goodbye, or possibly even wanting a place to rest. Yeah, i mean a ghost.. it sounds crazy, but then again, there are always times when people just cant explain why, other then to call it something that seems silly. Whatever it is, don't fear it, fear only makes it worse for you.
