how do vampires protect themselves from the sun?

i know in the vampire diaries it is Lapis lazuli that they have to protect them from the sun so i was wondering if there was any other things or ways that have been known to protect them from the sun or allows them to walk during the day

Actually, not all vampires burn when they walk into the sunlight. Dracula (in the book) can go out into the sunlight, however, his powers are weakened and he becomes vulnerable.



In True Blood, I know that the vampires believe that drinking faerie blood will create an immunity to the effects of sunlight to the vampires. At the second to last episode of the third season, they drink Sookie's blood after they find she is part faerie, however, this gave them only prolonged tolerance to sunlight.

They use sunblock- SPF 5000.
