I would recommend "Nosferatu". Its the first vampire movie ever - a silent film from 1922. Considering the technology at the time, its fantastic. They really made the best use of effects and is very creepy.

I am sure it must have freaked out a lot of people in its time.

Also, in the 90s, a movie came out called "the shadow of the vampire" which is about the making of Nosferatu - where the star is a real vampire and weird things happen on the set. Also a good movie - very original.

Enjoy!! :)

Near Dark is good. Nosferatu (really old but good), Shadow of the Vampire is a nice twist on the standard vampire tale.

In the 1960s in the UK there was a film company called Hammer which specialised in horror films. Many of these were loosely based on the Dracula story. One I particularly remember from my early youth was called Brides of Dracula. In this film the Count turned several women into vampires and kept them as his harem.

Gripping stuff...

There were other films too, like Son of Dracula.

There was also a film made in Germany in the 1930s about vampires called Nosferatu which is reputedly the first horror film.
