Hmmmmm....... I think I agree with what DeeDee said about the description for each of them. But as for which one is the strongest:
Top Level: Warlock and Witch
Next Level: Sorcerer/Sorceress
Next Level: Wizard
Begin Level: Mage
Also, I know this may not be related to what you ask but in some stories, or fantasy-related creations, some people make the sage the top spellcaster or the master of all spellcastors but in reality, "Sage" is what you call someone a wise person; a person who famed for wisdom.
I know this info of the sage may not be what you want to hear but I just thought I share this and and a little bit of my experience with you just in case.

Depends on who you ask. In D&D, Wizard was the highest title given to someone from the mage class. I don't have the table in front of me, but I think the order is Warlock, Sorcerer, Wizard. Mage or witch are general descriptions that would include warlocks, sorcerers and wizards, as well as lesser magic makers.

All those words are just synonyms for the same thing, the only differences being that "wizard" is the masculine for "witch" and "sorceress" is the feminine form of "sorcerer." All these words mean "one who practises witchcraft, magic or sorcery" (also all synonyms for the same act), so none would be any more powerful than the other, unless you mean via specific definition from a comicbook, video game, movie or fantasy story, etc, which then would be relative to whichever one of these the definition(s) come(s) from.

From what I know..
A mage is simply soneone who practices magic
A wizard has mastered magic
A warlock is a wizard who has a special ability or talent - you could say this is the most powerful
A sorcerer & witch specialises is a specific type of magic

What story/myth/game are you asking about? Different origins different opinions and all that. They are all simply people who use magic, and then the writer/story maker decides who is more powerful if any. Most story makers keep to one or two different titles though, to not confuse the reader, and then there are more or less powerful magic users with the same title. Saruman is considered stronger than Gandalf, but they are both wizards as an example.

Definitely the Warlock.
The Warlock has a more intimidating and sexy shape, is very versatile and unbelievably powerful. There are very few who can challenge a Warlock and win, especially within the same price range. Needless to say, I happen to have a Warlock.

It all depends on age, experience, and abilites. They all have the possibility of having equal power. The powers of magic don't have a preference.

What about a Archmage? They are pretty powerful wizards.
