Talking about Middle-Earth, there are the Encyclopedia Of Arda and the Middle-Earth Encyclopedia. If you want a wide range of creatures that also includes mythical monsters there is the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) Monster Manual. If you are a fan of Narnia, there is the WikiNarnia. If you are interested in Blizzard's Warcraft lore, you can find the WoWWiki very useful.
