Wasup yahoo peples,

Im making a story called The bloodline and it has a
mythical creature I made up in it.

I dont want to use vampires cause of twilight and its over used so I made up my own creature

I thought about naming them Lents or Natures kind.
Thats alll I came up with.

Their kind has different eye colors than humans but
they appear human.

Some of them have water like eyes that look like a
pond is in them or desert eyes that look sandy brown.
but it all depends.

Also, they gain strength by sucking the life out of
humans by contact of the hand.

they hold your hand and absorb the life from you to
gain strength so they wont get weak, however, some people stay lifeless but some survive and become
what they are.

The people who survive are those who have strong
connections with nature.

Also, their kind have supernatural powers where they can move nature around with their mind like the.water, or dirt from the ground.
They also heal fast and when they get old they dont
get rinkles or anything.
Most of them look younger than they really are.
So what should this strange species be called.
Please answer. What should I name my creature
THANKS!
and please dont tell me the ones I made up are good,
I need other opinions thanks

Nothing is better than vampires in my opinion. Your imaginary creatures should be interesting in a story, though. I don't know what you should call them. Maybe using a name generator or word generator would help.

Naming is a tough job, one of the toughest in fantasy writing! Lin Carter had a lot to say about it in his book "Imaginary Worlds", I suggest you pick up a used copy on abebooks.com and read what he says about it. Also, and even better in many ways, the master fantasy author Ursula K. LeGuin has a book called "Language of the Night", get the second edition. It is all about fantasy writing, also her book "Steering the Craft".

Play around with different syllables. What do you -think- a creature who does that should be called? When you see them in your mind's eye, what do you think of? Like are they sinuous and snaky, or are they like Greek goddesses, so attractive a man can't take his eyes off them and then they get him? People might mistake them for gods and goddesses if they see them moving natural things around with their minds, especially since they seem to be immortal. And do they just need energy from humans, or do they need other things as well? Do humans get anything from them in return (symbiosis) (might be more interesting and less like vampires) or do they just take what they need, is it one-way (parasitism)?

You might want to read the Sime-Gen series of novels by Jacqueline Lichtenberg. She has two races of people, one of whom absorbs a certain type of energy from the other. They have to learn to coexist.
