mermaids cant just lay eggs when they have body parts for sexual activity. mermaids wouldn't just lay eggs when they have a body part to attract males. how would sex be physically done by one?

My grandfather fought in WWI and my grandparents generation was that. It was another WWI veteran who first told me about mermaids and I was about ten or eleven. He told me that sometimes they would put their arms around you, pull you under and drown you, or make you feel very good if they were lonely. THAT GENERATION did NOT SAY "have sex". But that was very clearly what he meant. One way or another I've heard this story ever since. Mermaids seduce sailors. Sometimes they drown -- murder -- them but they also put out. How doesn't matter, this is the traditional story.

Your question has some incorrect assumptions attached. If mermaids have breasts then that means they are mammals, and therefore do not lay eggs. They would mate more like whales and other marine mammals. Here's a description of whale reproduction from https://answersrip.com/question/index?qid=20060616081932AAdDlNS
"As in all mammals, fertilization is internal in whales, and males have a copulatory organ, i.e. a penis. However, as cetaceans are specialized for marine life and have very streamlined bodies, their reproductive organs (both genital openings and teats/nipples) are lodged within longitudinal grooves in their belly and are not usually visible.
The penis of male whales is very long and it's attached to their small pelvic bones by means of muscles that allow them to direct the organ toward the female genital opening during mating. Mating occurs (of course) in the water, while the male and female swim with their bellies near to each other. In some species, several males "court" a receptive female until she finally allows the mating to occur."

Boobs are not necessarily to attract me unless the person wants to boobs are there for babies to drink milk
This all brings up the question why do mermaids wear bras at all or cover their boobs

Boobs are not just for attracting males... There also for feeding children with nutritions when they are first born, yes? Sex with a mermaid couldn't be done cause they only live in stories and tales (as we know so far)

Mermaids, like many female aspects of various world mythologies, including nymphs (Greek), the Sirens (Greek), etc. were represented as being very feminine, even though they were not entirely human. By having these "part-woman" creatures have the upper half of a woman, the Greeks and other cultures often displayed their artwork as being sensual and enticing, as per the nature of the subject from mythology. The mermaids, Sirens, and nymphs were very sensual creatures, often seen in myths as luring sailors/hunters/etc. to their deaths (whether on purpose or not is irrelevant) with their sweet, melodious voices and beautiful feminine graces.
To have an ugly visage would scare mortals away upon seeing the creature that sang so beautifully, so they were created as being gorgeous women from the waist up to entice men (nymphs were all different, they were usually all female for the most part). So this is most likely a feasibly explanation as to why mermaids had boobs, to give them more of an enticing, sensual feminine appearance. If they were not given boobs it would also have been harder to distinguish them from male counterparts. I doubt the Greeks gave any thought to the Sirens potentially reproducing, I'm pretty sure they were as simple-minded as teenagers are today. Pretty women w/ nice boobies = teh hawtness. Oh noez they drownded meh!!!

If mermaids were REAL they would probably swim around each other to fertilise eggs like fish do (youtube it). The purpose of breasts is to feed milk to offspring, it just so happens men find them attractive, which may also be true for mermen - But mermaids need to attract mates too y'know, even if they aren't literally having sex like humans do.

half human half fish , so you have the making of both species. in theory if mermaids exist they would be able to conceive in both means of mating as humans do (or in their case mating like dolphins) or laying eggs and having them fertilized. breast can still be used to give milk , that's where the human point comes in. breast's can also be an aid in luring people to them and adding to their beauty. they are depicted as the most beautiful women from them waist up. if you going for the pirates of the Caribbean mermaids route then it would most likely be that , a means to lure humans to their death :)

Boobs aren't for sex they're for mothers to feed milk to their babies.
And Mermen find Mermaid boobs hot... but many of them are tail men.

It's to attract land men, so they can make hybrids capable of living in both the oceans and on land. Then, they take over the world!

Apparently they nurse their offspring at some point post hatching. Boobs are for more than just sex you know.

Actually Manatee/sea-cows(mermaids) do sexually reproduce, and their mammary glands are used to suckle their young just like in other mammals(including humans).

MERMAIDS DO NOT EXIST (PERIOD).
I ONLY leave TRUE answers, but it is very sad how ignorant children are about reality!
