I'm a Wiccan and I'll help you. If you want to learn about magic, then you should study magic. Wicca is a religion.

Regarding the study of magical practice and theory, I have this to say: Magic is simply energy manipulation. It isn't all woo-woo and wand wand waving. Everything has energy. The Earth itself has energetic currents, which is why we have ley lines and places where water runs uphill. Every being on the planet has energy too. It's called Chi, or Prana, or Orgone, or a bunch of other names. Understanding how to feel, engage, gather, and release natural energy is what real magic is about. To learn it, a person needs to spend years training the body and mind. Here are the things to do if a person wants to learn "magic," or the manipulation of energy:

1. Learn to meditate.

2. Learn to move life force energy through techniques like Tai Chi, Yoga, Qi Gong, Karate

3. Learn to focus the will through mental exercises

4. Learn to visualize in great detail

5. Learn spiritual and energetic hygiene through the spiritual practice of one's choice

So, in closing, please don't use the name of my very real religion when refering to magic. They aren't the same thing.

Why do you need a Wiccan to teach you about magic?

Wicca is a religion. Magic is not the focus.

Wicca doesn't own magic; Wicca has been around for 70 years, magic has been around for ages.

Basically, if you want to be Wicca, your first reason shouldn't be magic.

If you want to learn magic, you don't need a Wiccan specifically.

My advice is to start reading on the subject; just stay away from books that give you all cute little spells like a recipe book. Rather, look for books that teach you philosophy behind it and explain how it works.

I'm Wiccan and have to agree with EasyDo, even though he has a sarcastic tone to his answer. Wicca is a religion. The Wiccan Rede states "an harme ye none, do as ye will" This puts a limit on spells since we don't manipulate other people. Many Wiccans practice no magic at all. We are an earth based religion who celebrate the seasons through the Lady and Lord.

We also believe that religious teachings are best left to the parents so if you are underage, an honest coven will not initiate you.

There isn't any such factor as black magic. There's magic - vigor directed by way of will in the direction of a specified target. What that target is makes it terrible or optimistic. Try Sacred Texts and different web sites that experience ancient Ceremonial Magic tomes, grimoires and texts. Go purchase a few Aleister Crowley and research for the following three years - then appear for a trainer.

Firstly the thing about being taught magic or wicca or any of the other paths is that you need to have a bit of common sense and maturity, much as I appreciate that you are a seeker there are way better places to be enquiring about teachers than yahoo answers. You would be dealing with a faceless person on a forum not even dedicated to the subject you wish to learn. So - for the first step why not look for online forums dedicated to Wicca/Witchcraft and paganism? Chances are you will find people on those that have far more experience and sense than half of YA seems to display :)

The other point is you can do a lot on your own, you don't need to get a teacher yet. Learn about all the paths not just one. For instance even within Wicca there is a lot of difference between the types, from all out initiatory path set within a coven, you are taught and initiated (and this version is very much about magic although it's not the main focus) to eclectic (taking source material from anywhere books/other religeons/etc) 'faery', 'seax' to hedge witchery (herbalist and very solitary based) there are also other earth based paths such as ceremonial magic, Traditional Witchcraft which is in no way related to Wicca, stregheria is basically the italian version of that - admittedly it is very ancient but some would insist that so is traditional witchcraft. Learn about all these paths. You can start online, you can ask which books are best, you can go outside and learn about nature all without ever coming near a teacher.

Another good source is your local occult store, they sometimes take a bit of finding but are often the hub of the local occult groups, you can look on such sites as Witchvox for local moots (that's meetings, usually a get together of the local pagan folks in an informal setting, sometimes with a speaker sometimes not)

Now regarding teachers, as well as what I've already said there are a few points you should bear in mind.

Reputable teachers will NOT take anyone under eighteen to teach, for preferenc older, this is especially true in coven based Wicca. If anyone says they will teach you without asking for information about yourself then they are not reputable. If you are a minor there are laws. If you are not a minor you still need to exercise common sense.

Don't take the first person who replies and says 'I will teach you' the whole point of this path is you take responsibility, those saying 'I will teach you' may well be looking for the status it would give them, not your best interests, it's far better to get to know the local pagan scene and then politely approach someone who you know and can trust. It's just plain daft to advertise on the internet asking for a teacher without seeing any of their work or them finding out a bit about you.

Learning over the internet is fraught with problems, many people use it as a resource, but as with Wicca and magic, the truth is in the experience not reading about it whether that's online or in a book, so get outdoors.

If you are underage then there are some groups that do distance learning via the mail, and you will need parental permission.

And most importantly - ask yourself why you want to learn about magic? Your other question asks if spells work, nothing about reverence for nature/dedication to a path/connection to divinity/connection to spirits - magic is not the be all and end all, it's not a quick fix and the answer to your problems.

... A word of friendly advice. ,,, If you are really serious about learning 'Magick',, then keep away from "Wiccan's" . .... "Wiccan's" know nothing about magick, & the spells they try to do are self limiting. (in other words,, they fail before they begin.) ... I'm not going to give a long rant about them,, they are just not worth it. ............... Try Instead,, to contact either a "Magickal Order", or if Witchcraft appeals to you more,, then look for the "Stregheria". They are people who do the real witchcraft as it was really done in ancient times. .... It is an Italian Hereditary Tradition, so not easy to find or get into. .......... Some excellent boks are by Raven Grimassii. ..... Also,, Have a look at the "WitchVox" site. It has people, contacts all around the world, it's Free, & there is a section for the young & family as well. ......... Good Luck in your search!

The best teachers of Magick are Demons, not "Wiccans", not real Witches. Demons, and the Devil. Where do you think all the old Witches of legend learned all their powers? Demons.

So, if you want to learn Magick, consort with the Legions of Hell.

I suggest a proper sacrifice. Now, it's up to you to decide what is proper. You may be able to get away with a finely prepared meal and some excellent wine, served on a black platter. Or you may want to get a little more... lively.

Either way, do that, and then simply say these words over the sacrifice;

Demons

Legions of Hell

I invite thee forth

Take as you will of this sacrifice

I do invoke you

You could also add some blood to the ritual, and a black candle. Where you get the blood is entirely up to your discretion.

Eventually a Demon will come if you do this enough.

Ask it to teach you Magick.

Ta Daaaaaa!

Seriously.

That will work.

I taught myself how to do it. It's actually quite easy. If you need help, message me on my YouTube.

www.youtube.com/user/lupathewolf

I have a few spells on there, and message me if you need any help. I'll tell you how to make a wand, anything. I learned it all from spellsofmagic.com, and magic does take a lot of time and effort. Been doing it for two years, and even I am not even that good. Just keep practicing, and if you need any help, just let me know.

Why would I want to teach someone who refuses to do even basic research into what he supposedly wants to learn? Wicca is a religion. If you want to learn practical magic, there's a variety of other things to study, such as witchcraft.

And why would I do this for free, which I'm guessing is what you're expecting?

And why on earth would I give my email address to a total stranger?

Many people who study magic learn on their own. They seek out info and study and practice and reflect.
